BOULDER, Colo.—Michael Melillo scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Fairview Knights to a 69-57 win over the Aurora Central Trojans on Thursday night in the boys Class 5A state semifinals.
Fairview (22-5), the No. 2 seed from the Front Range League, will play defending champ Regis Jesuit on Saturday night at the Coors Events Center.
Craig Saltarelli came off the bench to score 15 points, Shane O’Neill had 12 and Kenny Bell added 10 for Fairview, which avenged its overtime semifinal loss last year to eventual runner-up George Washington.
Aurora Central (20-7) was led by Aubre Prickett, who scored 16 points. DeSe Lee posted 13 points and Darren Sanders had 11 for the Trojans, the No. 4 seed from the Skyline League that lost for the first time in 12 games.
Fairview, which never trailed, led 31-23 halftime. Aurora Central tied the game twice, 21-21 with just over 3 minutes to play in the first half, and at 45-45 with 6:11 to play in the game.
