A former refugee from Bosnia-Herzegovina was extradited back to Colorado from Toronto today to face drug charges in Arapahoe County, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Darko Miroslav Subotic, 23, had been a fugitive since 2007. while he had been free on $20,000 bond, records show. He was arrested by law enforcement in Canada on Jan. 27.

He also faces warrants from the Denver County Sheriff’s Office for probation violations. Prosecutors in Arapahoe County are seeking a habitual offender charge, which would carry a mandatory sentence of 32 years in prison.

According to the Marshal’s Service, Subotic waived his rights to extradition proceedings in Canada to return to the United States to face charges. He was granted lawful permanent U.S. residency in 1998, according to the agency.
