An OnStar system in a stolen sport-utility vehicle led Colorado Springs police this morning to a man wanted in a string of armed robberies since Tuesday.
Jonathan Gaide, 28, was arrested after police tailed him using the GPS system, until he wrecked the stolen Chevy Trailblazer and ran at about 8:30 a.m.
Colorado Springs police said Gaide is also the prime suspect in an assault on a taxi driver Wednesday night. The cab was taken and used later in an armed holdup at a fast-food restaurant drive-through window.
Police chased the cab after the holdup, but backed off when the pursuit became too dangerous to other drivers, according to a statement from the Colorado Springs Police Department.
About three hours later, a man entered a home in the 7200 Eaglewing Drive and took a resident’s purse and sport-utility vehicle.
Forty minutes later, using the Trailblazer’s GPS, police closed in, which led to an arrest after Gaide ran a stop sign and hit another vehicle, which flattened some of the Trailblazer’s tires.
Gaide was apprehended by an officer with the help of a Taser, police said. Gaide also is suspected in a liquor-store robbery in Colorado Springs Tuesday, police said
