A fire at an apartment complex this morning in Aurora has displaced several residents.
The fire was reported around 6 a.m. in an apartment building at 46 Oakland St., said Capt. Allen Robnett of the Aurora Fire Department.
The address is near East First Avenue and Peoria Street.
The Mile High Chapter of the American Red Cross said 40 people are displaced because of the fire and because electricity, gas and water to the building has been shut off, at least for the day, as crews work on repairs.
The Red Cross has set up a shelter at the New Hope Community Church, 17699 E. Hampden Ave., Aurora.
The fire this morning started in a laundry room and spread to a hallway and stairwell in the building, Robnett said.
No one was injured but residents in six units will be displaced because of smoke and water damage.
When fire fighters arrived smoke was streaming from the garden level of the two-story building, Robnett said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
