BRECKENRIDGE, Colo.—Breckenridge Ski Resort is hoping to add a mountain version of a roller coaster on one of its peaks.
The resort plans to present its application to the Breckenridge Planning Commission on Tuesday night for a 2,500-foot-long ride on Peak 8. Unlike an alpine slide, the coaster would take riders on steel rails rather than a solid trough.
The ski area hopes to build the coaster this summer, pending approval by the town of Breckenridge. It would operate June 1 through Sept. 15 and through ski season.
Installing the coaster would require about 3,000 feet of steel track, tree clearing on a little more than half an acre, grading on half an acre, and a 540-square-foot operations facility.
