Former Denver City Council member Rick Garcia is now on the job as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s regional director, the federal agency said in a statement today.
Garcia was tapped in January by the Obama administration to lead HUD’s Rocky Mountain Region, which includes Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming and Utah.
In addition to overseeing about 60 HUD programs in the six states, Garcia will be the agency’s liaison municipal, state and congressional representatives, as well as other planners and policy makers in the region.
“Given the importance of HUD’s impact in the daily lives of millions of people and the future of our communities, it is an honor to have been appointed to serve as HUD’s regional director for the Rocky Mountain Region,” Garcia said in a statement.
A special all-mail ballot election is scheduled for May 4 to fill Garcia’s council seat representing northwest Denver. Garcia had served on the City Council since 2003.
