TUCSON — Arizona slugger Mark Reynolds says he has agreed to terms on a new contract with the Diamondbacks.

Two people familiar with the talks said Monday the deal was worth $14.5 million over three years and includes an $11 million club option for 2013. They spoke on condition of anonymity because the team has not announced the deal.

The 26-year-old third baseman hit 44 homers with 102 RBIs last season. He also struck out 223 times, breaking the major-league record of 204 he set the previous year.

Polanco injures knee

BRADENTON, Fla. — Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco sprained his right knee during a 5-1 loss to the Pirates.

Polanco was injured while trying to catch Delwyn Young’s pop single that landed just behind the mound in the second inning. Polanco was examined by the Pirates’ medical staff, which told him there was a sprain in the back of the knee as well as a slight hyperextension of the upper calf. Polanco said he could return by the end of the week.

• Jamie Moyer, 47, gave up five runs and eight hits in three innings to Toronto in a “B” game.

Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton left the game against the Giants after he was hit on the top of his left hand by a pitch from Madison Bumgarner. X-rays were negative.

• Ramon Ortiz kept up his bid for the fifth spot in the Dodgers’ rotation, pitching two-hit ball for four innings in a 4-0 win over the Angels. He has thrown nine scoreless innings this spring.

• Brewers closer Trevor Hoffman threw live batting practice and will make his spring debut Friday.

• Indians closer Kerry Wood (sore back) did not throw a scheduled bullpen session.

• St. Louis starter Brad Penny was struck on his right elbow by a line drive off the bat of the Mets’ Jason Bay in the first inning. After a few practice tosses, Penny stayed in. He gave up three runs and six hits in 3 2/3 innings, striking out one and walking one.

• Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez (groin) did not play against the Brewers . He is expected to play today.

• Oakland’s Ben Sheets was battered for 10 runs without retiring a batter in a 13-5 loss to the Reds.
