INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — Injured Cleveland center Shaquille O’Neal rejoined the Cavaliers on Monday.

O’Neal, who has been out since tearing a ligament in his thumb Feb. 25 and undergoing surgery, has been resting at home in Florida since the operation. He was back at the team’s facility but did not speak to reporters.

General manager Danny Ferry said O’Neal met with doctors and will be starting rehabilitation. He will not be traveling with the team.

• Miami Heat forward Dorell Wright apologized to the team and fans “for any distraction” that his arrest on a DUI charge last week may have caused. Wright is expected to play today against the San Antonio Spurs.

Beckham could play in September

LONDON — David Beckham underwent surgery for a “totally torn” left Achilles tendon and is expected to be out of action for about six months, said Dr. Sakari Orava, who performed the operation. The 34-year-old midfielder was injured Sunday while playing for Italian club AC Milan.

“He will have to take it very easy during the next two to three weeks or a month, and then he will continue with a recuperation program slowly,” Orava told The Associated Press. “The foot won’t take much strain for two to three months.”

• The United States will play Australia in an exhibition in South Africa on June 5, the Americans’ final game before their World Cup opener against England a week later.
