BEAVER CREEK, Colo.—The Eagle County coroner says a 13-year-old Texas girl who hit a tree while skiing has been declared brain-dead.

Coroner Kara Bettis says Taylor Storch fell backward and hit a tree while skiing at Beaver Creek Sunday afternoon. Authorities say Storch was skiing on an intermediate trail and wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Storch, of Coppell, Texas, was on vacation with her family.

Bettis says Storch was a beginner skier and had been taking lessons. A Beaver Creek official says Storch was not in a lesson when the accident happened.
