Two cross-country skiers survived an avalanche about 1 p.m. Wednesday but spent more than six hours awaiting rescue in a remote area on the east side of Grand Mesa, about 30 miles east of Grand Junction.

Seth Anderson, 35, of Grand Junction suffered leg fractures, but Ann Driggers, 40, also of Grand Junction, did not appear to have injuries, said Mesa County sheriff’s spokeswoman Heather Benjamin.
