GREELEY, Colo.—Colorado air quality officials have voted to expand a vehicle emissions testing program to part of northern Colorado, beginning Nov. 1.

The Colorado Air Quality Control Commission voted late Thursday to add parts of Weld and Larimer counties, including Greeley, to a program that already requires Denver-area vehicles to pass emissions tests.

The move was looming after the Environmental Protection Agency found that seven Denver metro area counties and parts of Weld and Larimer counties violated federal thresholds for ground-level ozone.

Weld County commissioners had sought to delay the testing. County Commissioner Sean Conway said the tests will cost drivers about $25 every two years during tough economic times.
