Metro State’s Christie Robinson threw the eighth softball no-hitter in school history Sunday in the first of two games against Colorado State-Pueblo.
The Roadrunners defeated CSU-Pueblo 1-0 in Game 1, and 6-4 in Game 2. Robinson allowed just one ball out of the infield and came within two outs of the school’s first perfect game but settled for the no-hitter. The senior preseason RMAC pitcher of the year coaxed 11 groundball outs and struck out six. The only ball that left the infield was a flyout to left field in the fourth inning.
The Roadrunners improved to 16-1 overall and 13-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, while the ThunderWolves dropped to 11-5 overall and 7-3.
• The Colorado School of Mines softball team swept the visiting Mustangs of Western New Mexico. Mines won Game 1 4-2 and posted a 9-2 victory in Game 2.
The Orediggers (11-10 overall, 7-5 RMAC), on a six-game win streak, host a four-game series against Adams State beginning Saturday.
Eagles notch win No. 300.
Ryan Tobler scored the game-winning goal Saturday with 7:18 left to earn the Colorado Eagles their 300th win in franchise history, as they defeated the Arizona Sundogs 3-2 to finish the regular season 42-15-7 (91 points).
The Eagles take on the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Friday at the Budweiser Events Center to open the Central Hockey League Northern Conference semifinals.
AFA takes regional boxing title.
Air Force took home the team title at the National Collegiate Boxing Association (NCBA) West Regional Championships in San Francisco. Seven Falcons claimed individual titles, as the squad picked up its 30th title in the last 31 years.
Air Force will return to the academy to train during spring break before traveling to West Point, N.Y., for the 2010 NCBA national championships on April 8-10.
Pioneer gymnasts take meet.
The University of Denver women’s gymnastics team finished in first place Saturday with a final score of 195.400 in its final home meet of the season. A Senior Night crowd of 1,461 watched the No. 19 Pioneers top Arizona (195.325) and California (192.450).
Denver travels to Colorado Springs to take on Air Force today in the final meet of the regular season.
