FORT COLLINS, Colo.—President Barrack Obama cited Rep. Betsy Markey as he tried to round up more Democratic votes for his health care bill.
Obama talked about the Colorado congresswoman’s decision to vote for the bill during a speech to the House Democratic caucus on Saturday. He said the Fort Collins Democrat was in a “tough district” but that her hometown newspaper, The Coloradoan, editorialized if favor of the bill after she announced she would vote for it.
Markey opposed an earlier version of the bill but says she supports the latest one because it does more to reduce the deficit and is better for small businesses. She said she wasn’t contacted by Obama or the White House in the days leading up to her decision.
