DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION: Awarded University of Northern Colorado assistant professor Karen Barton a Fulbright Hays grant, her second such award. Barton will travel to Kuwait, Qatar and United Arab Emirates to conduct research on marine development in the Persian Gulf.

COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY: Announced that Bill Farland, vice president for research, was selected as chair of the National Research Council committee on Emerging Science for Environmental Health Decisions and to a new National Research Council committee established by the board on environmental studies and toxicology.

COOK STREET SCHOOL OF CULINARY ARTS: Peter Ryan is returning to the school as executive chef/instructor. Most recently, Ryan headed up the kitchen at Z Cuisine Bistro.

EXEMPLA ST. JOSEPH HOSPITAL: Promoted Pam Ferlise to senior director of the medicine program.

FIRST TRANSIT INC.: Promoted Darlene Przytulski to the newly created position of quality assurance supervisor for the Denver Paratransit Operations Center.

CHILD ADVOCATES, DENVER CASA: Named Lisa O’Dell Davis as executive director.

COLORADO CHAUTAUQUA ASSOCIATION: Appointed Patricia Limerick, co-founder of the Center of the American West, to the board of directors.

UP WITH PEOPLE: Elected Cynthia Banks of GlobaLinks Learning Abroad and Robert Cygnaeus of Lidingö, Sweden, to the board of directors.

KELLER WILLIAMS REALTY: Merika Rutherfurd recently joined the DTC Market Center as a broker.

AMERICAN CIVIL LIBERTIES OF COLORADO: Selected C. Ray Drew as its executive director.
