LONDON — A signed copy of the classic children’s book “The Wind in the Willows” sold at auction for 32,400 pounds ($48,794)around 10 times its estimated value.

The book contains a dedication from author Kenneth Grahame to the daughter of English author Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch, who is said to have inspired the character of Ratty.

The inscription inside reads: “To Foy Felicia Quiller Couch from her affectionate friend Kenneth Grahame, Oct. 1908.”

Grahame often stayed at the Quiller-Couch home, where he found the inspiration for the children’s tale. The Associated Press
