Boulder authorities have been investigating a report of hazardous materials at the Boulder Homeless Shelter at the corner of Lee Hill Road and Broadway since 4:45 p.m.

A resident of the shelter was arrested in Boulder on a warrant from Arapahoe County today. He told authorities he had a dangerous substance among his personal things stored at the shelter.

Authorities have not released the man’s name or the reason he was wanted in Arapahoe County. As of 8:30 p.m. the Boulder County Hazardous Materials Team had not determined what the alleged hazardous material is.

Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said the public is not at risk. She would not say what the man claimed to have, but said it should not pose a risk if handled correctly.

About about 75 residents were relocated from the shelter to the Boulder Housing Partners building across the street this afternoon. Huntley said it could be several hours before investigators complete there work at the shelter and announce what the material is.
