COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado Springs police say a teenage driver accused of fatally striking a 15-year-old pedestrian was going 30 miles above the speed limit when the accident happened.

Police say 19-year-old Erick Ryan was traveling 70 mph and trying to pass to cars when he allegedly hit Ali Aashiq last week. Ryan is free on $10,000 bail and is expected to be charged April 2.

Police say Aashiq was trying to cross a street to catch a bus to school when he was struck. A nurse passing by at the time of the crash gave Aashiq first aid but he died at the scene.

Police say Ryan was driving with his 3-year-old at the time.
