The Colorado State Judicial Branch: Administrative Authorities have the discretion to grant individual requests for Cesar Chavez Day in lieu of another holiday within the same fiscal year. When granting such requests, the department must be open and minimally operational on both days and employees must be able to perform work.

The 9th annual Cesar Chavez Celebration will begin with a Mass at 10 a.m. March 27 at St. Joseph’s Church, West 6th Avenue and Galapago. After the service, a march will proceed to El Centro Su Teatro’s new location (7th Avenue and Santa Fe Drive). There will be an awards presentation, poetry, art, music and food. Leadership awardees include: Raymond Ayon, Ara Cruz, Maria Lopez, Nick Vigil and the Colorado Legal Services’ Migrant Farmworker Division. Info: 303-868-9025 or e-mail Delcastr@mscd.edu.
A community 8-mile march from Boulder to Lafayette in honor of Cesar Chavez will begin at noon April 2 at the Platt Middle School parking lot, 6096 Baseline Road, and will conclude at Festival Plaza at the corner of Public Road and West Chester Street in Old Town Lafayette. Prior to reaching Festival Plaza, marchers will stop at Pioneer Elementary, 101 E. Baseline Road, where a concurrent Cesar Chavez activity sponsored by the Lafayette Youth Advisory Committee and the Sister Carmen Community Center will be underway. At the conclusion of the event, Centaurus High School students will invite marchers to participate in a call campaign in support of pending DREAM act legislation following a performance by local Aztec dancers and a brief speaking program. The event was planned by an organizing council of representatives from several community-based agencies and sponsored by the University of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center. The event was conceived by a group of secondary students who participate in both the CU Public Achievement program and “I Have a Dream” programming.
