The stars have been popping up around Denvereating, shopping and working out. John Mayer went to Steuben’s last week to pick up his to-go order: spaghetti and meatballs.
Josh Duhamel and wife Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas went to Vesta Dipping Grill on Friday night. Also Friday, fellow Pea Taboo was in Sushi Sasa with about 20 people.
Saturday marked Fergie’s 34th birthday and the group’s Pepsi Center date — so she warmed up at Forza Fitness on the treadmill, then the elliptical, then lifted weights. Onlookers said it was “fierce.”
Rage Against the Machine drummer Brad Wilk signed bottles of his Olade beverage Sunday afternoon at Whole Foods Cherry Creek.
And Monday afternoon, Michael Buble (here for the Crazy Love Tour at Pepsi Center tonight) was in Barnes & Noble on the 16th Street Mall looking for the music section — but there ain’t one.
Hair sweet.
Westword’s Best of Denver issue hits the streets Thursday. It’s the first time in 27 years that it has come out on April Fools’ Day, but this is no joke. People really care who and what this fish-wrapper picks for Best Hamburger, Best Hike, Best Hardware Store. We, of course, always care the most about who wins Best Hair on a TV Personality, Male and Female.
Drumroll, please.
Best Hair Male goes to Ch. 9’s Eric Kahnert, Best Hair Female goes to Ch. 4’s Gloria Neal.
Kahnert, says Westword, “is young and serious — and very, very slick. In fact, he sports a mini-Ed Grimley oil-slick cowlick in front. It’s a popular look these days: bed head for the post-college crowd.”
On hearing the news Monday, Kahnert said, “I am flabbergasted. Bed head is appropriate, as I am just getting used to the morning shift. In high school, I was voted most likely to be famous — but not for my hair.”
Westword loved Neal — especially now that she’s on at 6 p.m. instead of 6 a.m., making it easier to be awake. “Since Neal’s hair is shorter than that of most male anchors, viewers can stay focused on the story and not an impossibly complicated spray job.”
Neal said: “Are you kidding me? My hair may be shorter than most men on TV, but my face is way cuter. But this is progress and thank you.”
Here come the judges.
Aspen Shortfest, which runs April 6-11, pulls in some notable judges this year: Actress Meg Ryan, Denver-based producer of “Precious” Sarah Siegel-Magness, screenwriter David Arata and doc-maker Daniel Junge.
Take note.
Denver is about to be knee-deep in writers attending more than 400 events at the Colorado Convention Center and Mercury Cafe. It’s the 2010 Association of Writers & Writing Programs Conference & Bookfair, which runs April 7-10. Among the bold names: Michael Chabon, Sapphire (she wrote “Push,” which was made into “Precious”), David Wroblewski.City spirit.
Kyle Dyer is back on 9News’ “Morning Show” after a three-week leave for hip surgery. If her smile looks a little frozen in the morning, it’s because she’s sitting on a bag of ice to help the mending.
Sez who.
