Catcher Ivan Rodriguez, a 14-time all-star, has caught every type of pitcher, but he’ll soon get a chance to catch for both sides of the political spectrum. Rodriguez will catch the ceremonial first pitch by President Barack Obama at the Washington Nationals’ opener Monday, marking the 100th anniversary of a presidential pitch to start the season. Obama’s appearance will be the 48th time a president has made an opening-day pitch in the nation’s capital. When he played in Texas, Rodriguez twice caught pitches from President George W. Bush, a former Rangers owner. The Associated Press; AP photo
