DENVER—Colorado lawmakers are sharply criticizing RTD board members, saying they wasted hundreds of thousand of dollars on executive compensation for former agency general manager Cal Marsella.
Regional Transportation District officials told the Legislative Audit Committee on Tuesday they made mistakes when they awarded Marsella a retirement benefit worth $2.9 million.
Marsella resigned as head of the Regional Transportation District last July after leading the agency for 14 years.
The district is a tax-supported political subdivision of the state that provides transportation in Denver, Boulder, Broomfield and Jefferson counties and portions of Adams, Arapahoe, Douglas and Weld counties.
