BANGOR, Maine—The Bangor International Airport unveiled a new sign for the Maine Troop Greeters as the organization was honored for meeting its 1 millionth service member.
The troop greeters reached the milestone last week when they greeted a planeload of soldiers from Fort Carson, Colo., who were on their way overseas. Since 2003, group members have been at the airport for every military transport flight coming from and going overseas.
On Wednesday, more than 100 greeters turned out at the airport to be recognized at a reception.
Rep. Mike Michaud, who was on hand, offered thanks to the “patriotic Mainers who make sure that no soldier passes through Bangor without receiving a handshake and a heartfelt thank you.”
