The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs jumped to a 3-0 lead after the first period and coasted to a 4-2 victory over visiting Colorado to earn a conference semifinals sweep of the Eagles in the Central Hockey League playoffs.
The Eagles, the highest-scoring team in the CHL during the regular season, will miss the league finals for the first time since 2006. Ed McGrane scored for Colorado in the second period, and Ryan Tobler added a goal with 1:05 remaining and an extra attacker.
AFA to build indoor facility.
The Air Force Academy plans to use a $5 million donation from a graduate to construct an indoor athletic training facility. It’s the largest gift from a graduate in the history of the academy.
The center is scheduled for completion in early 2011 and will consist of a regulation-sized football field which also can be used for lacrosse and soccer. The Falcons are currently the only service academy without a dedicated indoor training facility.
The donation comes from Bart Holaday — a 1965 graduate — and his wife, Lynn.
Arena team has new owner.
The Colorado Ice of the Indoor Football League on Thursday introduced Tom Wigley as the team’s new owner.
Wigley is a retiree who lives in Windsor. The Ice (1-4), which plays its games at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, has nine local players on its active roster, including Bobby Purify from the University of Colorado.
Busen to lead Adams State men’s soccer.
Adams State named Tim Busen the school’s men’s soccer coach. Busen, who was head boys and girls coach at Perry High School in Lansing, Mich., was selected after a national search. He is the first full-time coach of the Grizzly program that was started in 2009.
Gajic again NLL rookie of week.
The National Lacrosse League tabbed Colorado Mammoth forward Alex Gajic its rookie of the week.
Gajic tallied nine points in two games last weekend against the Washington Stealth, including a six-goal outing Friday night. This is the third time Gajic has won the honor.
Steamboat Springs to honor Olympians.
U.S. Sen. Mark Udall will attend the “Hometown Heroes Celebration,” a parade commemorating Olympic athletes with Steamboat Springs connections, including members of the nordic combined team who took home medals in four different events.
A parade will go through downtown Steamboat Springs beginning at 7 p.m. tonight at City Hall.
