RIDGWAY — The body of an experienced rock- and ice-climbing guide has been found buried in an avalanche near Baldy Peak, about 40 miles north of Telluride.
Ouray County Sheriff Dominic Mattivi said friends reported Heidi Kloos of Ridgway missing Wednesday after she failed to come home from a climbing outing Tuesday. A volunteer search team found her backpack and dog Wednesday. Mattivi said that with the help of search dogs, the team found Kloos’ body Thursday under about 5 feet of snow.
