MILWAUKEE — Outfielder Corey Hart’s sluggish spring with the Brewers could open the door for Jim Edmonds to start opening day.
The Brewers host the Rockies on Monday and manager Ken Macha must decide between Hart and Edmonds for right field. He said he hasn’t made up his mind.
“I expect to (start), but I’m not writing the lineup,” Hart said. “We’ll see what happens.”
Hart is hitting .123 in the spring with two homers and five RBIs, while Edmonds, 39, has a .273 average, two homers and 12 RBIs.
Hochevar hit by line drive
ARLINGTON, Texas — Royals starter Luke Hochevar pitched only four innings in his final spring training start after taking a comebacker off his left ankle.
Manager Trey Hillman said Hochevar was OK and would make his first regular- season start as scheduled Wednesday against Detroit.
“It’s fine. I could have gone back out,” said Hochevar, a graduate of Fowler High School who was only 12 pitches shy of his 60-pitch limit. “We decided to stay on the safe side, come in and get some ice. . . . No problems, no pain at all.”
The only hit Hochevar allowed was an infield single to Julio Borbon in the first.
• Royals third baseman Alex Gordon (thumb) and Josh Fields (hip) likely will open the season on the DL.
