Northern Colorado beat Montana State-Billings 2-0 at Jackson Field in Greeley on Sunday afternoon to earn a three-game baseball series sweep, the Bears’ first this season.
UNC freshman pitcher Mark Shannon earned his first win of the season, throwing a six-hit shutout in a contest that lasted 2 hours and 15 minutes. Shannon threw 153 pitches (105 for strikes), striking out a season-high 11 batters.
It was the first shutout at Jackson Field since May 22, 2004, as UNC improved to 7-15. Montana State-Billings fell to 8-20.
Seven Bears had at least one hit, led by senior Mike Raudenbush, who went 3-for-4. Junior Kyle Hardman and senior Seth Budde went 2-for-4, and Jarod Berggren made it a seven-game hitting streak with a home run that tapped the left side of the scoreboard. Senior outfielder Tyler Borzileri extended his hitting streak to eight games, UNC’s longest this season, with his single to lead off the bottom of the first inning.
