Boulder triathlete Matty Reed came up just short of defending his 2009 title at the Ironman Oceanside 70.3, finishing second to world champion Michael Raelert in this year’s race March 27 in California.
Reed was third out of the water but fell behind Raelert on the bike leg of the race. Reed came off the bike in fourth place, but a six-second transition moved him into third starting the run, and he was unable to chase down Raelert.
