MILWAUKEE—Veteran Jim Edmonds is starting in right field for the Brewers over incumbent Corey Hart when Milwaukee plays the Colorado Rockies to start the season.
Manager Ken Macha waited until just before Monday’s opener to make his decision. The 39-year-old Edmonds signed a minor-league deal in the offseason worth $850,000 plus incentives if he was added to the roster.
Edmonds is a four-time All-Star and has won eight Gold Gloves, but he’s struggled with injuries throughout his career and had been dealing with a stiff left hamstring in recent days.
Edmonds hit .292 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 21 exhibition games. Hart batted .172 in the spring.
