Denver boxer Alvarado KO’s Arroyo.
Returning after an 11-month absence from the ring, Denver boxer Mike Alvarado dominated Miami’s Lenin Arroyo for a second-round knockout in a nationally televised junior welterweight bout late Saturday in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Alvarado (27-0, 19 KOs) stunned Arroyo with a square right hand, then put him to the canvas with an uppercut, earning a TKO just 42 seconds into the round. It was the first time in his career Arroyo (20-12-1) had been stopped.
A five-month prison sentence for a probation violation and an elbow injury kept Alvarado from fighting since May 2009. He has won nine of his past 12 bouts by knockout.
