A former nurse who stole painkillers from surgical patients and sometimes gave them unsterilized tap water instead, will report to federal prison today.
Ashton Daigle will serve a four and a half year sentence.
He could have faced life in prison for tampering with vials of the drug fentanyl while he was working at Boulder Community Hospital.
Daigle got a break from prosecutors and a judge because he cooperated fully, which allowed investigators to determine he didn’t infect any patients with a communicable disease.
Prosecutors say his cooperation helped them build a template for dealing with other cases where hospital workers stole drugs.
