Getting your player ready...
Some tremendous artifacts are on display at the New York Mets’ Hall of Fame, which opened Sunday: Casey Stengel’s bright blue Mets blazer, Tom Seaver’s 1966 contract for $500 with the Jacksonville Suns, a 1980 scouting report on a young prospect named Darryl Strawberry. But the ball that squirted through Bill Buckner’s legs in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series might be the museum’s crown jewel. “I really wanted a ‘wow’ factor,” Mets executive Jeff Wilpon said. “We wanted it to be like a real museum, a special place.” For Boston Red Sox fans, “special” might not be the appropriate word.
