The Colorado men’s golf team shot an 856 over three rounds, finishing tied for fourth place in the Cowboy Classic at the par-70, 7,133-yard North Course at Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. on Tuesday.
The Buffs finished 15 strokes behind tournament winner Cal State-Northridge. CU edged Wyoming by five strokes as the Cowboys finished sixth.
Air Force’s Tom Whitney shot a final round 67 for a tournament total of 211, tying him for fourth place with Colorado’s Sebastian Heisele.
Whitney has now recorded seven top-five finishes in 11 tournaments this season and nine finishes in the top 10. The Falcons finished with an 894 for 20th place.
Northern Colorado finished tied for 15th with an 883.
CSU women take third in Cowgirls Classic.
The Colorado State women’s golf team finished in third place, shooting a three-round 897 at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at Ocotillo Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.
The Rams had 291 in the final round, tying them for second with Northern Arizona. To break the tie, a scorecard playoff was held by comparing the fifth- place score of the third round. Colorado State senior Natalie Stone had the high score of the round with a 77, three strokes higher than Northern Arizona, leaving the Rams in third place out of 23 teams.
The Rams were led by Brianna Espinoza, who finished fifth with a 220, the best finish of her career.
The Wyoming women finished with a 950 for 13th place, and Northern Colorado tied for 14th with a 952.
UNC revival in ninth.
Northern Colorado scored 10 runs in the ninth inning to rally for a 19-14 win over Air Force at the Air Force Academy.
Trailing 14-9 heading into the final inning, the Bears sent 14 batters to the plate, with the first eight batters reaching base successfully.
Northern Colorado had 21 hits in the game, with Jarod Berggren finishing 4-for-6 with a home run and four RBIs and T.J. Berge going 3-for-6 with a homer and four RBIs.
Air Force had 14 hits on the day. Addison Gentry had four RBIs and Nathan Carter went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs to lead the Falcons.
