El Paso Corp. said Monday that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission had approved its $3 billion Ruby pipeline, which will transport gas from the Rocky Mountain region to Western markets.
Jim Cleary, president of the natural-gas pipeline and production company’s Western Pipeline Group, said Ruby will be the first carbon-neutral pipeline in U.S. history.
The 675-mile, 42-inch pipeline would take natural gas from Opal, Wyo., to Oregon. Construction is scheduled to begin this spring, with the pipeline beginning operations a year from now.
