Happy Birthday, Jean-Paul Belmondo
One of the faces of the French New Wave of the 1960s, Belmondo’s first big break was opposite Jean Seberg in Jean-Luc Goddard’s stylish 1960 film “Breathless,” about young lovers on the run from the French fuzz. Belmondo celebrates his 77th birthday Thursday; toast him with a Parisian cocktail.

Stir together 1 ounce dry vermouth, 1 ounce gin and a splash of crème de cassis with ice. Strain into cocktail (martini) glass. Garnish with orange peel and serve.
