Nobody questions Jason Giambi’s bat, but the Rockies miss Todd Helton’s glove when Giambi’s in the lineup. Giambi committed a fielding error in the second inning, leading to an unearned run. Helton and Giambi had three errors each last season, Helton in 149 games, Giambi in 63. Colorado has committed at least one error in every game.

It only seems like Jim Edmonds came out of retirement to face Aaron Cook. With two singles, he lifted his career average to .579 (11-for-19, three home runs) against the right-hander.

Catch a thief.

Carlos Gonzalez is sizzling at the plate but not the bases. He’s been thrown out twice stealing second, though he appeared safe Wednesday. Gonzalez was 16-for-20 in stolen base attempts last season.
