Greeley is the first city in Colorado with more than 50,000 people to have a higher percentage of households turn in their census forms than 10 years ago, the Census Bureau said Thursday.
About 66 percent of the households in the northern Colorado city had returned 2010 forms by mail, compared with 61 percent mailed back in 2000.
However, eight other cities with more than 50,000 people had higher overall response rates, led by Arvada and Centennial at 75 percent each. Those cities have yet to reach their 2000 participation rates.
Among all cities in Colorado of any size, response rates ranged from 82 percent in Bow Mar to 11 percent in the town of Pitkin on the Western Slope. The Census Bureau updates the response rates daily. Burt Hubbard, The Denver Post
