COLORADO SPRINGS — Kitchi, the North American river otter who wriggled free from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo on March 25, stomped through the muddy banks of stream near Cheyenne Meadows recently.
Tracks were found pressed into the mud under a bridge.
“We were pretty surprised and happy and very excited,” said Tracy Thessing, the director of animal collections for the zoo and one of two women who discovered the tracks. The zoo is not worried about the animal’s ability to find food.
The 2-year-old otter was “caught in the wild, so he knows what he is doing,” she said. “He is not a naive otter.”
