TORONTO — Imax’s second-largest customer, Regal Entertainment Group, confirmed Thursday that it plans to launch its own giant-screen format as a “complement” to its Imax strategy.
Called RPX, which stands for Regal Premium Experience, Regal said the all-digital format will feature luxury seats, state-of-the-art sound and a giant “immersive screen.” It debuts May 7 with the release of “Iron Man 2” in New York.
The news follows about a month after AMC Entertainment decided to open more of its own ETX large-format theaters with similar “off-the-shelf” technology. AMC is Imax’s largest customer. Dow Jones Newswires
