Three bodies with gunshots were discovered this morning in a trailer in southwestern Colorado.

Names of the people found in the trailer, about 6 miles outside of Cortez, were not released.

All three suffered gunshot wounds, said Montezuma County Sheriff Gerald Wallace.

“We have three dead people in a small trailer at this time,” Wallace said. “The scene is still so fresh.”

The bodies were found in a rural area home on the 13,000 block of County Road 32, Wallace said.

Another resident on the property, checking on the residents of the home, found the bodies at about 10 a.m. and called 911, Wallace said.

Names were not released pending notification of relatives.

Agents with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are aiding investigators with the sheriff’s office.

It’s the first homicide investigation in the county this year, Wallace said.

Investigators believe the deaths are an isolated incident and that area residents are not in danger.

“There is no indication at this time” that a gunman is at large, Wallace said. “No one was seen leaving and there are no vehicle marks” leading away from the trailer.

Wallace declined to comment on whether a gun was recovered at the scene.

“It’s early in the investigation,” Wallace said. “We are looking at all the angles.”
