Colorado men’s basketball coach Jeff Bzdelik is being reported as a possible candidate for the Wake Forest vacancy, according to .
Bzdelik and athletic director Ron Wellman worked together for five years at Northwestern. Bzdelik was an assistant coach at Northwestern from 1980-86 while Wellman was the head baseball coach for the Wildcats.
In a statement today, CU athletic director Mike Bohn said: “I have not been contacted by anyone from Wake Forest regarding their vacant head basketball coaching position, nor have I heard from Jeff or his representatives regarding the same. At this point, there is no reason to comment further and I am under every impression that Jeff will be returning to coach the Buffaloes in 2010-11.”
Dino Gaudio was fired Wednesday after three seasons at Wake for failing to win enough games in the postseason.
Calls to Bzdelik have not been returned.
CU fulfilled a clause in Bzdelik’s contract by breaking ground on a new practice facility last week. Now, if Bzdelik were to leave for another school in the next two years, CU would be owed $500,000.
