A show of heart(s)

Twenty-five years have elapsed since the first Little Hearts Luncheon and Fashion Show was held, and for founder and chairwoman Lyn Schaffer it seems more like a heartbeat than a quarter-century. This benefit for the Children’s Hospital Heart Institute remains fresh and exciting, thanks to the unpredictable antics of the youngsters who model fashions from Dillard’s. They’re accompanied by doctors, caregivers and the brave men and women from the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority.

As Major League Baseball’s 2010 season begins, the Blair-Caldwell African American Research Library, 2401 Welton St., offers a glimpse into the past with “Who’s on First? The History of Negro League Baseball,” an exhibit that remains on view through May 29. At the opening reception, guests were treated to a first look at items from the collections of Jay Sanford and John Kohl; several special events, including the April 19 screening of a documentary about Negro League Baseball, are scheduled for the exhibit’s run.
