A woman walking in James A. Bible Park pulled an unresponsive man from the Highline Canal in southeast Denver about 4:15 p.m. today.

Lt. Phil Champagne, a spokesman for the Denver Fire Department, said the woman spotted the man’s body, pulled him from the canal and was trying to resuscitate him when fire crews arrived at the park near East Yale Avenue and South Monaco Parkway.

The man was alive but not doing well when he was taken to a hospital, Champagne said.

He could not release any information on the man, because of federal restrictions on health information. The woman’s name also was not available.

Investigators haven’t determined how the man wound up in the water or how long he had been there, Champagne said.
