There’s never a dull moment in this town. At least when it comes to doing good for those in need. Check these out:
• De-cluttering experts advise tossing one item for each one you add. So: Why not update your spring wardrobe by shopping at Larimer Square on Saturday, and then donate something from your closet to Dress for Success and/or Excelsior Youth Center? Nine Larimer Square merchants, including Eve, Mariel, Scarpaletto and Blush, will be accepting donations between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.; they’ll also enter you in a drawing for a $300 shopping spree.
• Whitney Allen, Christy Belz and Andrea Price are chairing International Celebration of Women, a luncheon and fashion show that begins at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sherman Street Event Center. Learn more by visiting luncheon.
• Chairman of the board Bruce Dodge sends word that the 46th annual Colorado Sports Hall of Fame dinner, which begins at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday at the Marriott City Center, is a sellout. The 800-plus guests will witness the induction of a group that includes Mike Shanahan, Joe Sakic, Larry Zimmer and Lindsey Vonn.
• A host of the city’s top chefs will be at EXDO Event Center Wednesday to prepare table-side, five-course dinners for those attending Flavors of Denver, a benefit for the American Liver Foundation. Sign up for the 6 p.m. event by calling 303-988-4388.
• Performances by Lemon Sponge Cake and Dance Renaissance will be part of the Denver Ballet Guild’s spring luncheon that begins at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cherry Hills Country Club. Co-chairs Pamela O’Neal and Cindy Read say that the $50 tickets can be purchased by calling 303-898-9805.
• Casting for Recovery, a nonprofit organization that offers wilderness retreats and other programs for women touched by breast cancer, is having a benefit cocktail party and auction Thursday at the Oxford Hotel. Tickets are $30 advance or $40 at the door. Visit .
• Hospice of St. John has asked Lorraine Salazar and Edie Marks, along with Marks’ daughters, Elise and Lori, to serve as honorary chairs for the April 24 Mad Hatter Tea. Guests are encouraged to wear their best bonnets to the 12:30 p.m. event being held at the Denver Design District, 595 S. Broadway. Call Apryl Burton, 303-865-7214.
• Hairstyling isn’t the only thing Matthew Morris of “Shear Genius” fame does well. Or is it? Find out April 25 when he attempts to roll some strikes at Brunch ‘n’ Bowl. Sports talker Les Shapiro emcees this benefit for the Shining Stars Foundation; the fun starts at 10:30 a.m. at Lucky Strike Lanes in the Denver Pavilions. In addition to Morris, other celebrity bowlers will include KYGO’s Kelly Ford; Kathy Lee of The Fox; and chefs Troy Guard, Tyler Wiard, Matt Selby, Brian Laird and Jamey Fader. Tickets: sign-up.shiningstarsfoundationcom.
• LoDo hot spot 24K was the setting for a cocktail party aimed at increasing the number of young professionals attending Beacon Center’s upcoming Cherish the Children Gala. Anne Donley and Lydell Peterson coordinated the get-together and loved it that nearly everyone came in costumes reflecting the gala’s Night in Casablanca theme. Gala chairs Loretta Kelce and Nancy Sevo are happy with ticket sales to date, but say there’s still room for more the night of May 15 when Marc Roth and Jim Pfister transform the Hyatt Tech Center into a scene from old Marrakesh. Call Cindy Williams, 303-761-6756, ext. 22.
