NEW YORK—An Afghanistan-born imam linked to the suspects in an aborted suicide bomb plot against New York City faces prison after pleading guilty to lying to the FBI.
Sentencing was scheduled Thursday afternoon in Brooklyn for Ahmad Afzali. He could get up to six months in prison.
Afzali pleaded guilty in March in a deal sparing him serious jail time. It also requires him to leave the country within 90 days after completing the sentence or face deportation.
Afzali was arrested in September as federal authorities scrambled to thwart a plot by Najibullah Zazi. The Colorado airport van driver pleaded guilty to terror charges.
Two other men have pleaded not guilty in the case. Another suspect was recently arrested in Pakistan.
