LONGMONT, Colo.—Unionized workers at the Butterball LLC turkey processing plant in Longmont have approved a three-year contract with protections if there are layoffs.
United Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 says more than 80 percent of members who voted ratified the contract Monday. Union officials say the biggest gain was the layoff protection. Employees would be guaranteed at least 36 weeks of work at 32 hours per a week to cushion the effects if reductions are made.
Butterball officials didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
The plant employs 225 people and makes turkey products for Subway and other restaurants and grocery stores.
