COLORADO SPRINGS — Three fourth-graders have been disciplined after a classmate was forced into a hole and dirt was thrown on him, Academy School District 20 officials said Thursday.

A staff member at Academy Endeavor Elementary School in Colorado Springs also was disciplined after Wednesday’s incident, D-20 spokeswoman Nanette Anderson said.

She said the boys apparently dug the hole on the playground during morning recess on Wednesday and attempted to force the victim into it. The boy reported the incident to a staff member.

Later in the day, two students held the boy in the hole and threw dirt on him.

Other students who saw the attack told playground monitors, who came to the boy’s aid. No one was injured in the incident, Anderson said.

“These incidents are very serious, and the school administrators have been in contact with the child’s family,” she said in a release. “District security officials discussed the incident with police representatives and the child’s parents.”

The students’ names and specifics of the disciplinary measures were not released.
