BOULDER, Colo.—The sole candidate for the University of Colorado-Boulder provost has withdrawn from consideration to pursue a position at another university.

A search committee selected Robert Sternberg as the sole finalist after reviewing 58 applications. The committee said Monday that is suspending the search for now.

Sternberg, who visited Boulder last week, is the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Tufts University.

Stein Sture, a vice chancellor for research, is serving as interim provost.

The provost is the chief academic officer for the Boulder campus, overseeing all research, teaching and faculty operations.
