Rockies president Keli McGregor was a local sports star and longtime sports administrator who was found dead Tuesday in his hotel room in Salt Lake City. A look at McGregor’s life:

Personal history: Born Jan. 23, 1962, in Primgahr, Iowa. He and his wife, Lori, have four children: daughters Jordan, Taylor and Kandri, and son Logan.

Athletic career: Walked on to the Colorado State football team as an undersized halfback, not highly recruited out of Lakewood High School … Became a four-year starter (1981-84) at tight end at CSU after spending his freshman season as a redshirt … Set CSU single-season reception record (69) in 1983. Ranks fifth all-time in career catches (153) … Earned UPI and AP All-America honors after the 1984 season … Three-time all-Western Athletic Conference (1982-84) . . . Inducted into the Colorado State Sports Hall of Fame in 1997 … Named to the Rams’ all-century team in 1992 … Earned his degree in microbiology … Selected by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round of the 1985 NFL Draft. Played for Broncos, Colts and Seahawks in the NFL.

Administrative career: Earned a master’s degree in sports administration at the University of Florida, where he was on the football coaching staff for two seasons … Worked in the University of Arkansas athletic department for four years as assistant athletic director to Frank Broyles … Hired by Rockies in October 1993 as senior director of operations, was named senior vice president in 1996 and became executive vice president in 1998 … Named Rockies president in October 2001.
