Democratic challenger Andrew Romanoff raised $386,000 in the first quarter of this year, far behind incumbent U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet’s $1.4 million.

But the Romanoff campaign claimed momentum and said a great deal of his money came in March after important caucus victories.

“We’re well on track to have all the funding we need to mount an aggressive and successful campaign,” said Romanoff spokesman Roy Teicher.

Romanoff finished the quarter with $502,000 in cash on hand. He has raised $1.02 million since kicking off his campaign in September; Bennet has raised a total of $6.2 million since his appointment in January 2009 and finished the quarter with $3.5 million in cash on hand.
