DENVER—Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn is Colorado’s athlete of the year and Joe Sakic is in the state’s sports hall of fame.
Also inducted Tuesday night was former Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, who won two Super Bowls with the Broncos before becoming the Washington Redskins coach earlier this year.
Vonn, from Vail, won the Olympic downhill title at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver. Sakic retired last year after a 20-year NHL career that included winning the Stanley Cup twice with the Colorado Avalanche.
Joining Shanahan and Sakick in the hall are former Northern Colorado football coach Bob Blasi, broadcaster Larry Zimmer, former Cherry Creek High School baseball coach Marc Johnson, and Dean Lahr, a champion wrestler at the University of Colorado.
